INSHORE REPORT:

Throughout the week, the stripe bass and blue fishing has been action packed. Most of the Stripers are still schoolies 6-10 pounds with some of the larger fish around 15-25 pounds. There are quite a few large porgies around as well, keep in mind thought that until September 1, 2009 the limit per person is 10 per man. The fluke fishing has continued to be very good off the Point. There are still a good number of large fish around and with good weather this coming holiday weekend, we expect to see some nice fish hit the deck. For those of you fishing in Montauk this weekend, there is a slight chance of showers on Saturday, so make sure you have some foul weather gear handy, just in case. There will be light winds out of the north around 1o kts on Saturday and will be shifting around to the south Sunday to Monday. We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend from Montauk Fishing Charters and we look forward to posting a good fishing report on Tuesday.

Montauk FISHING REPORT as of May 18, 2009

INSHORE:

The 2009 NY state fluke season opened on Friday May 15 and with some decent weather on Friday and Saturday, the fluke fishing was very good off Montauk Point. Many fishermen found action packed drifts off the Point and limited out with nice fish in no time. In addition to some nice doormat fluke, there are schooly stripe bass around along with the bluefish. Trolling or diamond jigs have been the most productive method of fishing for the bass and the blues at this time.
